Default Ranged adrenaline building

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post or if it's been discussed already, but search wasn't returning any answers and I didn't want to post this in the Campfire because I want opinions from the PvP community.

Ok, so formerly warriors would use the 10% IAS wand for building adrenaline at range, but now that it's been removed from the game and spears are in, what's the best choice? I still see warriors breaking out wands or even longbows on occasion.

Which is the most effective weapon for this purpose? Spear gives you the option of Furious/Fortitude and +5e, and according to Guildwiki it has attack speed, range, and arc comparable to a wand. Is this accurate? Is there something about wands that give them an advantage even after the aforementioned nerf? And is a longbow worthwhile for building adrenaline (at least in most situations)?

Any insight from the experts out there would be appreciated.

either a furious spear, same as a wand cept that lucky chance at double adrenaline, and/or a longbow if you prefer to stay back

Umm, I'm not an expert on ranged adrenaline building but I carry a wand and a longbow. If one doesn't serve, the other will and vice versa. Wands actually have a significantly long range than spears: wands can hit a target just outside the compass circle, while to chuck spears your target has to be completely inside the circle. Imo if you're chucking spears at something you might as well be whaling on them with your melee weap. you're so close. Longbows are meh for building adren, they're so easy to dodge you probably won't hit anything if you're playing a team that cares enough to move. In short: wand ftw imo.

Wand for closer range stuff.

Longbow for when you want to stay as far away from the other team as possible.

Spears are generally better, but candy cane wands attract fans on Obs mode. Your call, really.

I would go for a wintergreen candy cane wand, 15>50 modded and customized

There are a few things you want to utilize with your extra swaps on a melee character, mostly being a ranged set, energy manipulation, and a defensive shield set (if using a hammer, scythe, or daggers). There are a few different ways of going about this, so it ends up just as personal preference. Generally you want to maximize your slots by making your ranged set also double as a +energy set (+60HP max staff, +5e spear & shield, etc.) or a -energy set (-5e spear & shield/focus), and then doing what you please with the other set.

The exception is if you want to actually do as best damage as you can with your ranged set, in which case you probably want to find a wintergreen candy cane wand. Typically though, that and a longbow/flatbow can just be kept in your inventory for special situations.

This is what I have, although (upon second thinking) I would rather have had a Furious Spear.

Comparison:

Wand has a better range (i.e. Recurve Bow) versus the spear (i.e. Shortbow).

Spear has a faster attack speed (i.e. 1.5 versus 1.75) and the benefit of the Furious head.

So, Wand is a bit slower to build up adrenaline (albeit faster than bows), but gives you a bit more range.

Good points all around. I have a candy cane wand and bow customized, but I'm wondering about the spear now. It has a lot of points in its favor, although from my experience thus far I have to agree somewhat with Iced. When I'm "spearing" people, it seems like I might just be better off going into melee range and outputting some actual pressure since I have to be fairly close anyway. The downside with the wand is that it can't double (at least not very effectively) as a high/low swap and it lacks a fort mod.

Do you think you're going to get a kill with the extra damage from a candy cane wand?

If yes, bring the wand.

If not, the Furious Spear is clearly the best.

Peace,

Ok, there's a very low chance to get a kill with a wand but might happen in a skirmish.

Personally when I tried spearing people for adren I found the lower range annoying-so I stick to wands.
